In 2012 I had the pleasure of reporting from The North Face Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc following The North Face athlete Jez Bragg around the course as he attempted to repeat his 2010 win. (Link to blog). In 2013 I'll be back but to attempt the CCC, a shorter version of the main event featuring a 100km route from Courmayer to Chamonix via Champex with 5950m of ascent

Lakeland 100 preview

A wee video from my 2011 attempt on the Lakeland 100. Injury forced me out at 49 miles so I was back again in 2012. A lack of moral fibre saw me withdraw at 75 miles. In fairness I was off guiding in Greenland a couple of days later and so my head wasn't in to pushing myself to my limit but still a great event to be part of. 2013 looks like being a (very) warm one which doesn't play to the strengths of a 90kg mountaineer! In fact my last ultra was in knee deep snow which after a winter season guiding on the Scottish hills wasn't a great chore. This weekend is going to be slow and steady and hoping to pick up the pace during the hours of darkness. I've even given myself a day off on the Monday so no excuses with not pushing to the bitter end...
